Active Forth

Do you have a condition which would benefit from being more active? We could help improve your wellbeing through our 24 week structured exercise programme, supported by our friendly, motivating and highly qualified staff.

What is Active Forth?

Active Forth is Falkirk's physical activity referral scheme. The aim of the scheme is to give you an opportunity to become more active and gain the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. Don’t worry if you currently do no activity at all! Our team will set your programme with your current fitness level in mind, and will support you as your fitness and confidence increases.

Who can be referred?

Active Forth is an exercise referral programme, meaning that a health professional such as your GP, physiotherapist or specialist nurse will decide if it’s suitable for you. If so, they will complete a referral form with you and send it onto us. If you have any of the following health conditions, Active Forth could be for you!

  • Cardiac
  • Epilepsy
  • PVD
  • Stroke
  • Injury/Post Rehab Surgery
  • Diabetes I or II
  • Chronic Back Pain
  • Arthritis
  • Stress
  • Motor Disease
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Spina Bifida
  • Fibromyalgia
  • CFS/ME
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Falls Prevention
  • Hypertension (3+)
  • Osteoporosis
  • Depression/Anxiety/Stress
  • Serious Respiratory Disorder

If you have a medical condition that is not stated on this list but feel you would benefit from a structured programme, please get in touch with one of our Physical Activity Referral Consultants to discuss.

What is involved?

Active Forth is a 24 weeks supported activity programme. Once we receive your referral form we’ll contact you to make an initial appointment, where we’ll give you information about Active Forth and what is involved.

You'll then come along to a 2nd appointment, where you'll take part in a fitness assessment (don't worry, it's not hard!) and a physical activity programme is devised based on your medical conditions and lifestyle.

Once you have your programme, you can start! Don’t worry if you are still apprehensive, you can book into supervised sessions and groups with the Active Forth team to help you build confidence. Activities are available for you to try throughout the programme, such as classes, aqua sessions and Step Forth led health walks. You also have access to all Falkirk Community Trust swimming pools as part of your monthly membership.

There are 4, 8 and 12 week reviews built into the programme, so that the Active Forth team can monitor and support your progress, make any changes to your exercise programme, and review any changes to your medication or treatment.

After 24 weeks, you'll repeat your fitness assessment to chart your progress, and your instructor will help signpost you to the next stage in your fitness journey.

Other services/classes associated with Active Forth are:

  • Active Forth Class
  • Group and Individual Supervised Sessions
  • Otago and Strength and Balance classes
  • Back into Motion Back Pain Classes
  • Aquagym and Hydropool sessions
  • Step Forth Walking Groups
  • Swimming is included in your monthly membership at any of our pools
